Twisted Love ★★★★★

I read this book so fast and am so glad this Tiktok recommendation was actually good. I have a few trust issues because of Punk 57 but this was so much better! This was another dark romance where the first book follows one couple and the next book follows a closely related couple. I think I’m actually going to continue the series because of how much I love this book and the characters.

Content warning: This book contains a possessive, morally gray alphahole; explicit sexual content, and profanity. No cheating or menage, but if you’re looking for a traditionally sweet, loveable hero, this is not the book for you. Recommended for 18+

Goodreads summary:

He has a heart of ice…but for her, he’d burn the world.

Alex Volkov is a devil blessed with the face of an angel and cursed with a past he can’t escape.

Driven by a tragedy that has haunted him for most of his life, his ruthless pursuits for success and vengeance leave little room for matters of the heart.

But when he’s forced to look after his best friend’s sister, he starts to feel something in his chest:

A crack.
A melt.
A fire that could end his world as he knew it.

***

Ava Chen is a free spirit trapped by nightmares of a childhood she can’t remember.

But despite her broken past, she’s never stopped seeing the beauty in the world…including the heart beneath the icy exterior of a man she shouldn’t want.

Her brother’s best friend.
Her neighbor.
Her savior and her downfall.

Theirs is a love that was never supposed to happen—but when it does, it unleashes secrets that could destroy them both…and everything they hold dear.

My review:

This book made me stay up all night, even once I finished the book I couldn’t stop thinking about the characters. I made notes in my note app so that I could remember all the things that I wanted to say in my review. I did make a TikTok video about this book because I had so many things that I wanted to say! Even then I still forgot to mention certain things that I loved. This book is super popular right now and I can understand why.

So this book is a little unrealistic and Alex is the ultimate fictional dude. He has a super high IQ, tons of money, and is super attractive. I didn’t read it for realism. Alex is dark and broody and is the embodiment of one of my favorite tropes. If you know me, you know that I love the ‘I hate everyone but you’ trope that is so prominent in this book. This is the ultimate sunshine/moody romance and I eat that shit up.

This book was such a fast read and I am waiting for a break in my reading schedule to start book 2.

Ok but on to the things I felt were important enough to make a note about!!! She made him these terrible cookies and he ate them and said they were good. I don’t know why but this made me so happy. I love when the ‘bad’ love interest has a soft spot for the main character and does dumb stuff like this to spare her feelings. There are other instances like this but I won’t spoil any for you.

There is spice in this book and it is really well written. I really liked the pacing and how every scene wasn’t smashed together. There was actually a plot and it wasn’t overpowered by sex. Then there is also groveling! I would have loved to see a little bit more but I accept what I am given. Maybe there will be more related to Alex and Ava’s brother in future books and I can’t wait to find out.

I recommend this book if you’re looking for something with spice and a grumpy/sunshine dynamic. Just ignore how fictional Alex is and you’re good to go. I think this is a fun read and I also like that you don’t have to continue the series because they are all relatively independent!
